Our Engagement Story
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’m getting married! Grant and I got engaged back in August and I wanted to share our engagement story!
Grant and I had a trip planned to Seattle for quite a few months to go up and hang out with our friends that live in Seattle. I had no idea that Grant had been planning the proposal since May when we had started to plan be trip.
I wasn’t suspicious of very much except for a few things. Typically, my mom always tells me how much she’s going to miss me before I go on a trip, but the night before I left, she just kept telling me how excited she was. And in the morning of our flight to Seattle, Grant was acting so silly and so different. I made a joke to him that I was going to leave him at home and not take him on the trip!
On Thursday, August 15, Grant and I got on a plane at LAX! (With a dream and a cardigan!) On the flight, Grant had been telling me that we were going to be picked up by our friend Daniel and he was going to take us to Kerry Park and his wife Mandie was going to meet us there with my favorite pizza so we could have a picnic at sunset.
Kerry Parks has significance to Grant and I because it was one of the first places we went together on our first trip to Seattle. One of my favorite shows is Grey’s Anatomy and Kerry Park is one of the places that they film at. Also, right next to Kerry Park is a house that they frequently film in! (The intern house)
I told Grant that I wasn’t sure that we are going to make it in time for sunset, but he was very adamant that we would make it. I was confused why he was so worried about it, so I told him that it wasn’t a big deal if we didn’t make it in time. Little did I know!
Once we landed and made it out of the airport, our friend Daniel picked us up and he was even more nervous than Grant! During the drive, Daniel didn’t put any music on and was visibly nervous. He had told me that he was really stressed from work, so I had just assumed that it was because of that. Grant sat behind me in the car, which he never does. I found out he did this because he wanted to take the ring out of his backpack and get it into his pocket without me seeing.
We got to Kerry Park and it took us quite a while to find parking, which I could tell made Daniel even more nervous. Once we finally found a spot, we met up with Daniel‘s wife Mandie and found a spot to eat our pizza! Grant I thought there wasn’t going to be very many people there that night, but there was roughly 100 people at the park taking pictures at sunset. He told me later that that made him pretty nervous. Once we had sat and enjoyed our pizza and relax for a little bit, Daniel walked away and scoped out a new spot and said that he thought it would be better to hang out over there since it was a little more secluded.
Mandie is a professional photographer so she brings her camera everywhere. Grant suggested that our spot would be a good place to take pictures and I agreed! After Mandie took a few pictures of us sitting and looking at the Seattle skyline, Grant said he thought that we should take some standing up as well! The second that grant turned to me and grabbed my hands, I knew.
He grabbed my hands and looked at me and I already started to cry! He got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him! It was by far the best moment of my life thus far. I hugged him the moment he put the ring on my finger and everyone at the park started clapping!
We took a walk over to the house where Grey’s Anatomy has filmed to take a moment to ourselves and let it soak in. I couldn’t stop smiling and shaking! After a few minutes we called Grant’s parents, his sister, my mom (who was sitting with my entire family!), and my best friend.
After calming down a little, we went back to our friends apartment to celebrate with cake!
It couldn’t have been more perfect. I’m so lucky to be spending the rest of my life with my best friend and the love of my life!
I hope you guys enjoyed our story and I can’t wait to share more wedding content on the blog!
