Phoenix Weekend Trip
Hi all! A few weeks back I took a quick little 48 hour trip to Arizona with my boyfriend and his family for a weekend full of sports. The weekend was packed full of fun and good food, so here is my little recap of our weekend!
Day 1- Friday
We started off our drive at about 2:30 PM after we had all gotten off work. Friday’s are typically a busy traffic day on the route we needed to go, but it ended up only taking us a little over 5 hours to get into Phoenix. My boyfriend Grant and I got to relax in the backseat the entire drive, which was a change of pace since our road trips are normally just the two of us. We binge watched almost the entire season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan! Towards the end of the drive, we stopped to grab some quick take out and finished up our drive!
We were staying at the Worldmark by Wyndham Phoenix- South Mountain Preserve and since we were traveling with eight people, this resort was perfect because it is set up as apartments with one to three bedrooms. Our specific unit was a three bedroom apartment which had an attached garage, full kitchen, washer and dryer, and a balcony! Within the resort, there are two pools, a splash pad, ping pong table, and fitness center!
After we arrived, we unloaded the cars and spent some quality time with each other! Half of us had come from California and the other half had come from New Mexico, so we needed some time to catch up, play some games, and enjoy each other’s company.
Day 2- Saturday
After a long Friday night, we all slept in a little bit and then got ready for the day.
Our first stop of the day was Spinato’s for lunch. I had discovered Spinato’s a few years back when I attended my first GFAF (Gluten Free and Allergen Friendly) Expo in Phoenix. They had been at the event giving out samples of their pizza and pasta sauces. Spinato’s is an Italian restaurant chain in Arizona that offers tons of gluten free options like appetizers, pizza, and sandwiches. One of their menu items that really stands out to me is their GF Cheesy Garlic Bread. I have never been to a restaurant that has offered gluten free garlic bread, let alone cheesy garlic bread. This was one of the items I was most looking forward to.
I am a huge fan of their pizza, so I decided to order the specialty Get Meaty on their 10 inch gluten free crust. The toppings include Italian sausage, Italian beef, pepperoni, and smoked Canadian bacon and it was incredible! Some of the other people on the trip ordered Spinato’s build your own calzones, pepperoni pizza, and spaghetti and meatballs. Everyone enjoyed their meals and this is a must stop for me every time I am in Arizona!
After lunch, we headed over to Chase Field for the Arizona Diamondbacks game! The game that we attended was against the Atlanta Braves and it was Hispanic Heritage Night! They had a fiesta outside the venue with a multitude of vendors doing giveaways and contests. After checked out the fiesta, we headed inside to cool off in the air conditioning. There was a bobblehead giveaway that night, which made it even more fun! Inside the field, they had Hispanic folk dancers and other heritage pieces to look at throughout the venue!
Chase Field is an indoor field which is perfect to escape the heat in Phoenix! There were so many different food and drink options, which made it so easy for everyone to find something that they wanted to eat. I opted for the nachos, which were incredible! We sat in. The game was so much fun to watch even though they did end up losing to the Braves.
After the game, we decided to go and get some dessert! We stopped at Bahama Buck’s, which is a shave ice company. They have so many different flavor choices. Just on their original flavors list, there are 64 flavors! I went for a shave ice with Lemon-Lime and Mango. The shave ice was a lot better than other have ice in my mind because instead of one giant hunk of ice that is sometimes difficult to eat, the ice was extremely smooth and easy to eat. I wish there was one close to me!
That evening, we all got home and almost immediately went to bed since we had stayed up so late the night before and had such a long day.
Day 3- Sunday
On Sunday morning, we all got up and made breakfast. Since Grant and I had already packed up most of our things, we decided to hop over to the pool for an hour to just relax and take a little time for ourselves. The pool was gorgeous and felt so good since it was already 95 degrees by 9AM. After we went to the pool, we helped everyone else pack up their things and load the cars.
State Farm Stadium
Our first destination was State Farm Stadium, which is the home stadium of Arizona Cardinals. The reasons that we had planned the trip was because Grant’s dad is a huge Washington Redskins fan, and the Cardinals were playing the Redskins that week. State Farm Stadium is a dome, which makes it so much easier to go to a game with it being so incredibly hot.
The inside of the stadium was giant and there was so many things to look at regarding the history of the team, the history of the stadium, and so so many food options. I went for the chili cheese fries, which were so good! The only thing that was a little disappointing was that they did not offer any soft drinks aside water that was not soda.
During the game, we sat in the upper bowl, which were great seats since we could see the entire field and all of the screens. There was so many little things that made the experience so much fun. Right before the game started, the Cardinals mascot was attached to a wire and jumped from the top of the stadium and floated all the way down to the field. The game was so exciting and fun to watch! The family was split on who was rooting for each team, but I’m thankful that the redskins ended up winning since it was Grant’s dads first time seeing them play! It was such a fun experience and I look forward to going back for another game!
After the game, we headed to Tanger Outlets for one last stop before we drove home. Every time I have been in Phoenix, I have stopped by these outlets! Some of Grant and I’s favorite stores to stop by are Nike, Francesca’s, Lululemon, Calvin Klein, and Just Sports. Since they are all outlet stores, the prices are reduced which makes everything so much more affordable! We have the same routine every time that we head to the outlets, so the first thing that we did was head over to Wetzel Pretzel. We picked up one of their Frozen Strawberry Lemonades. I was able to pick up a few things from Francesca’s, but that was it for me for this trip.
I hope you enjoyed this little recap of my weekend trip to Phoenix!
