San Diego Anniversary Trip
Hi all! It’s been a while since I shared about my travels, but I’m back and ready to share! Back in February, Grant and I took a 4 day trip to San Diego to celebrate our 2 year anniversary! San Diego holds a special places in our hearts, so we love to road trip to explore! We went to quite a few places that we haven’t seen before, so I can’t wait to tell you all about it!
On Thursday, we picked up some Starbucks and then went on our way! Our first stop that we made was 2Good2B Bakery in Encinitas! 2Good2B is a bakery and café that is 100% gluten free plus the products are free of tons of other allergens! Unfortunately, the location that was on our way now only serves the bakery items and not café food. We didn’t have time to drive to the other locations, so we picked up 3 desserts for the weekend to bring with us and went on our way!
After grabbing our desserts and grabbing a quick bite at Blaze Pizza, we drove the rest of the way to our hotel. We stayed at the Wyndham by Worldmark at Mission Valley! We stayed at the same hotel for our first anniversary and absolutely loved it. One of my favorite things about the hotel is that the specific room that we always book has a full kitchen, including a stove, oven, full fridge, sink, dishwasher, and all of the dishes you could ever need! When I travel, I get tired of eating out very quick so having a kitchen is something that I love!
After we unpacked and settled in, we went off to Whole Foods to grab some groceries for the trip, including snacks and different meals for dinner. We went back to the hotel and decided to have a night in! We made one of our dinner, played some board games, ate dessert, and went to bed since we knew we had so much planned for the next few days!
Once we got up on Friday morning, we went straight to the gym. I love starting at least one day of a vacation with a workout. After out workout, we went back and got ready for the day!
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I am a latte addict and love to start my day with a good coffee. I was so happy to have gotten a suggestion to head to The Grounds Bean Bar, so that was our first destination of the morning. They have plenty of options for coffee as well as GF and non GF food options. I went for a vanilla latte as always and a GF Lemon Poppy seed muffin, and Grant went for a White Chocolate Mocha and Chocolate Banana Bread.
The interior of the shop is decorated with so much floral and beach décor, which is ideal for its location! We sat outside to enjoy our coffee and treats and then went inside to take some pictures!
We were gifted passes to Belmont Park, which is an amusement park, for the day from Grant’s parents, so we headed over there to spend the day! Neither of us had ever been so we weren’t sure what to expect. There were so many different rides, activites, and food! Our favorite was the ropes course and laser tag! I had never done a ropes course before, so it was frightening but exhilarating!
We had so many yummy snacks! I didn’t have too many options, but Grant tried cheese on a stick from Hot Dog on a Stick and a Beaver Trail. I ordered some ice cream which was fantastic!
After our full day at Belmont Park, we were exhausted. We went back to the hotel and Grant cooked me dinner! It was so nice to relax back in the hotel and eat a home cooked meal and play games! We ate the rest of our desserts and went to bed!
We started of Saturday, the day of our Anniversary, in the best way! Grant woke me up with a coffee, which is my ideal way to wake up! Then we opened our presents to each other, made breakfast, and got ready! Unfortunately, it was supposed to rain all morning, so we decided to go to the movies for the morning! We were very lucky because AMC theatres have a ticket deal before 11am! We can barely resist getting a slurpee at the movies, so of course we had to start the day with one!
After we got out of the movies, we went to go and grab some lunch at The Lazy Dog Restaurant! We both got appetizers since we love to share and we didn’t want to eat too much before our anniversary dinner! I got the Chicken Chile Verde Nachos and Grant got wings. The Lazy Dog is such an amazing environment to relax and hang out.
After our lunch, we went back to Belmont Park to ride the electric scooters next to the beach and watch the sunset. Neither of us had ever tried riding the electric scooters, so we were a little apprehensive. After practicing for about 5 minutes, we started to head down the beach and it was so much fun! We may have gone a little over the speed limit to have some extra fun!
We stayed on the scooters for about 30 minutes and then grabbed some hot chocolate before going to sit on the beach and watch the sunset together!
Once we got back to the hotel after sunset, we got all dressed up and ready to go out for dinner! Our destination for our anniversary dinner was Yard house! We ordered their amazing chips and guacamole to start and then a burger and jambalaya! I had never eaten at Yard house for a full meal before and I was impressed. We were so thankful to have also received a free dessert that had writing on the plate!
Sadly, Sunday was our last day of the trip, so we made breakfast and packed up the hotel room. Before heading all the way home, we stopped at Coronado Island for lunch and to explore the beach! The bridge to get to Coronado is something that I have a love hate relationship with. The bridge is very very high off
the ground which stresses my out tremendously, but I love the view that you are able to get of the city and the ocean!
After we finally found a parking spot, we went to lunch at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants, La Salsa!
We sat and enjoyed our lunch and then went to explore the rocks and relax on the beach together. It is also a dream for me to stay at the Hotel del Coronado. It is filled with so many rooms, villas, pools, and more!
Unexpectedly, we decided to make one more stop on our way home in La Jolla. Our first stop in La Jolla was at one of my favorite coffee shops, Living Room Café!
Living Room is just a little coffee shop that has so many different drink options, food options, and you can even get boozy coffee.
I love to grab a coffee and then head to the cliffs to see the seals that have taken over La Jolla!
La Jolla is known to have tons of seals that come up onto the beach, swimming in the ocean, and hanging out on the cliffs by the water! I honestly think that we stood and watched them for at least an hour just laughing at their funny tendencies and how they interact with each other! It was the best way to end our trip.
I hope that this can help you come up with some fun ideas for San Diego, even if you aren’t coming for an anniversary!
